Wowing the Maker Community

Imagination, 3D printing, laser cutting and auto mechanics are all elements of Urban Workshop's brand-new facility. Urban Workshop. a  member-based DIY maker space, opened its doors in Irvine in July of 2014.   At the time, their 5,500-square-foot facility seemed spacious. This April, they more than tripled their creative space--by moving to an 18,500-square-foot location in Costa Mesa. Not only does the new space allow for expansion of popular features... ...it also incorporates some brand-new ones. In addition to being a maker community, Urban Workshop teaches more than 80 classes--available to both members and nonmembers. In early June, Urban Workshop Office Manager Melinda Murray gave a tour of the new facility and talked about the ways Urban Workshop is allowing makers to go with their imagination and turn inspiration into reality.
